Senior Mentor, Fencing

Viveka was introduced to fencing at summer camp 45 years ago, and she’s been addicted ever since. She was team captain while attending Harvard and received all-Ivy honors. She started her club, the Vermont Fencing Alliance, in 1992 and has coached many generations of competitive and recreational fencers in foil and epee. She is the founder of the US Fencing Green Mountain Division, a nationally certified referee, and a US Fencing Coaches Association certified Moniteur (instructor). She has twice been selected to the US team for Veterans (a.k.a Masters age group) World Championships, 2015 in Budapest and 2019 in Cairo. Viveka has returned to Adirondack Camp for over 20 summers, and has been recognized with a Gold Eagle award for her many years of service to the camp. She lives in nearby Addison, VT with her husband Peter (canoeing senior advisor). When not fencing, she enjoys cycling, cross-country skiing, canoeing, camping, gardening and playing Celtic and New England traditional fiddle music. “Summer camp was an important part of my childhood. Now I get to spend one day a week remembering why. I’m looking forward to another great summer!”
