Yesterday, our group of 28 campers and 8 staff embarked on an exciting journey to Forest Lake Camp for the kickoff of our inter-camp sports tournament. The day was filled with spirited competition in Soccer, Archery, and Ultimate Frisbee, making it a thrilling and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Joe, our Head of Land Sports, shares a recap of the day’s events:

Tournament Report

By Joe Thorn

“The big day! Forest Lake away. With weather warnings on the horizon, we set off early and started the 3-sport event with soccer, which did not disappoint. After 2 first half goals from ADK, we looked in control but a strong comeback in the second half from our opposition tied the game at 2-2 going into extra time. Two 7-minute halves were the only thing between us and penalties. ADK looked to push on early and were the first to break the deadlock, extending their original lead to 3-2 in the first half of overtime. Tension was high but a free kick from the half-way line, expertly taken, sealed the deal and brought us 1-0 up in the tallies.

Next up was Archery, and after being briefed on the format, we were set for an intense bout. It was a strong start for both camps but it was not to be for ADK as FLC edged the scoring by a mere 40 points, levelling the tie. Ultimate frisbee was next on the cards, a new sport added to increase participation and bring light to a more niche sport. FLC took an early lead and unfortunately ran away with the fixture, leaving the scores 1-2 as we head into Friday’s home sports of: Speed Climbing, Fencing, Tennis and Basketball. It was a very well hosted and friendly event and all of our staff members are tremendously proud of the performances and efforts from all campers who took place. Now we look forward to hosting FLC and turning the scores around.”
